SHED was set up as a forum for dyslexia specialists to share expertise and current practice. Since the first meeting in December 2002, members have discussed issues such as: assessment procedures; current DFES regulations; the impact of the dyslexic profile on the writing process in HE; fieldwork and placement; criticality; phonological research; academic skills. There are currently 29 representatives from the following institutions: Arts Institute, Bournemouth; Bournemouth University; University of Portsmouth; Salisbury College; Southampton Solent University; University of Southampton; Sparsholt College , Winchester; University of Winchester. Meetings are held twice yearly at the University of Southampton, with occasional guest speakers or specialist trainers.
